A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Green Media Initiatives (GMI) and the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) was held at Atta-ur-Rahman Hall, FUUAST, marking a significant milestone in promoting environmental sustainability within academic institutions. The ceremony was attended by a large number of students, faculty members, and administrative staff, all of whom warmly appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the importance of integrating environmental responsibility into higher education. The event reflected a growing awareness among academic communities about the urgent need to address environmental challenges through collective and institutional efforts. This MoU formally marks the beginning of GMI’s broader and long-term vision to transform FUUAST into a model green campus that can serve as an inspiration for other universities across the country.

Following a series of insightful and constructive discussions with the Head of the Zoology Department, Madam Rubina Mushtaq, and Assistant Professor Dr. Saima Siddiqui, both GMI and FUUAST mutually agreed to collaborate on a comprehensive joint environmental initiative. These discussions focused on identifying practical, sustainable, and impactful ways to improve the university’s ecological footprint while actively involving students and faculty members in the process. With the strong support and encouragement of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Suleman D. Muhammad, and the technical guidance and expertise of Dr. Rafi Ul Haq, Green Media Initiatives has undertaken an extensive plantation drive within the university premises. This drive is designed not only to enhance greenery but also to improve air quality, biodiversity, and the overall aesthetic appeal of the campus.

The project aims to develop FUUAST into a model green institution by promoting recycled innovations, eco-friendly practices, and the establishment of thoughtfully designed green departmental gardens. These gardens will serve as living laboratories where students can observe, study, and engage with nature in a practical setting. A key objective of the initiative is to actively engage the younger generation in plantation and conservation activities, thereby nurturing a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility. In addition to plantation efforts, the initiative will include awareness sessions, workshops, seminars, and interactive activities aimed at building student capacity to understand and address emerging environmental and climate-related challenges.
